Newport Beach and Crystal Cove State Park are both easy drives from Rancho Cucamonga! In Newport Beach, you will find long stretches of sandy beaches. Crystal Cove State Park offers great beaches and a bluff with hiking and mountain biking trails. Here are some of the beach choices at each location:
Balboa Peninsula Beach – Newport Beach
Balboa Peninsula Beach is popular place with many nice amenities. While they offer a fishing pier, most visitors are focused on getting wet. The “Surf is Up” at Balboa Peninsula Beach! You can surf, bike, skate or just set up your chair and sunbathe. This city beach is outfitted with firepits, a grass park, picnic tables, play areas and a paved bike path. When you get hungry, you will find plenty of restaurants nearby.
Little Corona Del Mar Beach– Newport Beach
If going deep is your preferred state of water exploration, Little Corona Del Mar Beach is where you are going to want to unpack your gear. This rocky cove draws snorklers and scuba divers alike. Check in with the lifeguard and head out to enjoy the rocky outlets. This is also a great place for birdwatching.
Cameo Shores Beach– Newport Beach
If you are looking to explore a rocky shoreline and put your hands into a tidepool, Cameo Shores Beach, just up from Little Corona Del Mar Beach is the option for you. Most of the beach is wet at high tide, so you are going to want to plan to arrive while the tide is out. Your walk will be worth it, as you will find the beach riddled with colorful tide pools and some great places for cliffdiving. This is THE spot for seashell collecting!
Marina Park– Newport Beach
If you are looking for a great spot to swim where the water is clear, Marina Park is the place to be. The water conditions here are perfect for stand up paddleboarding and kayaking. Its also super close to Newport Pier Beach, so there are tons of great restaurants to choose from.
Little Treasure Cove– Crystal Cove State Park
Want to see whales? The observation platform at Little Treasure Cove offers a great whale watching vantage point. Below the observation platform are beautiful tide pools that can be explored at low tides. There is a paved bike path and hiking to fill out your day during high tides.
Los Tracos Beach– Crystal Cove State Park
Within the historic district of Crystal Cove State Park is Los Trancos Beach where Los Trancos Creek flows into the Pacific. Here you will find vintage beach homes that have been preserved and can be rented for your stay. You can also pitch a tent in the nearby campground. You’ll find some great shopping and restaurants nearby along with swimming and scuba at the beach.
Pelican Point Beach– Crystal Cove State Park
Here you will find a broad beach that slopes gradually and changes drastically froma narrow beach at high tide to a wide beach with rocks in the surf at low tide. Scuba divers start their explorations from the north side near Pelican Point. The tidepools and beach walking will keep you occupied, as you watch the surfers riding the waves.
Treasure Cove Beach– Crystal Cove State Park
Last but not least, Treasure Cove Beach within Crystal Cove State Park is accessed from hiking trails that lead down from the steep bluff. It is popular with surfers and scuba divers who enjoy exploring the reefs in the underwater park. It’s tall rock wall has an observation deck and, if you are feeling especially brave, there are caves to explore.
Taking a days outing to the beach from Rancho Cucamonga will run you about an hour and a half each way. Expect traffic to be heavy as you near Newport Beach.
